Career Overview

Yung Joc debuted in 2006 with It's Goin' Down — a snap-rap track that reached #3 on the Hot 100 — and New Joc City, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and went gold. Hustlenomics (2007), exec-produced by Diddy with features from The Game, Jim Jones, Rick Ross, Snoop, and Bun B, debuted at #3 with 70,000 copies. Both PopMatters and Rolling Stone found the album formulaic. He has since appeared on reality television and operated independent of major labels.

Why Hustlenomics Earned 3/10

Hustlenomics (2007) earned 3/10 from us. PopMatters called him the Good Charlotte of rap — not particularly skilled, not particularly authentic, just in-tuned enough to what's moving units to shrewdly follow suit. Rolling Stone called it a collection of lame get-rich anthems with slack diction and unremarkable rhymes. The best moments came when guests stepped up and took pressure off Joc's trembling shoulders.

Legacy & Cultural Impact

Yung Joc's legacy is primarily It's Goin' Down — a snap-rap track that worked perfectly as a cultural moment in 2006 Atlanta rap. Like most snap-rap, its cultural window was brief and its commercial formula could not sustain an album-length argument for the artist's existence.
