Why Supermarket Failed
Supermarket (2019) was a tie-in album for Logic's novel of the same name. It abandoned rap almost entirely in favour of indie rock and pop, and was dismissed by critics as a vanity project that wasted Logic's genuine skills on a genre he was not equipped to perform in. The primary cause of failure was the same as Lil Wayne's Rebirth and Drake's Honestly, Nevermind: when a rapper abandons the thing they are genuinely talented at, the result reveals how much of their appeal depended on that specific skillset.
