Who Is Logic?
Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, known as Logic, is a Maryland rapper who built one of the most loyal fanbases in rap through a combination of technical lyricism, personal storytelling about biracial identity and mental health, and an extraordinary work rate. 1-800-273-8255 (2017) — a suicide prevention anthem featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid — remains one of the most socially impactful mainstream rap singles of the 2010s.
Quick Stats
Career Overview
Logic grew up in difficult circumstances in Gaithersburg, Maryland — biracial, homeless at periods, exposed to drug and alcohol abuse. His mixtapes Undeniable (2010) and Young, Broke & Infamous (2011) built a dedicated online following. Under Pressure (2014) was a critically acclaimed debut album. The Incredible True Story (2015) and Everybody (2017) continued his commercial ascent. 1-800-273-8255 went platinum multiple times and generated massive attention to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. YSIV (2018) and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019) were commercially strong. Supermarket (2019) — a novel tie-in rock album — was his creative nadir. He retired in 2020 before returning.

Why Supermarket Failed
Supermarket (2019) was a tie-in album for Logic's novel of the same name. It abandoned rap almost entirely in favour of indie rock and pop, and was dismissed by critics as a vanity project that wasted Logic's genuine skills on a genre he was not equipped to perform in. We rated it 2/10. The primary cause of failure was the same as Lil Wayne's Rebirth and Drake's Honestly, Nevermind: when a rapper abandons the thing they are genuinely talented at, the result reveals how much of their appeal depended on that specific skillset.
Legacy & Cultural Impact
Logic's impact on mental health discourse in mainstream rap is significant and lasting. 1-800-273-8255 generated a documented increase in calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline following its release and performances, including a notable spike after his 2018 Grammy performance. His transparent discussion of biracial identity, childhood trauma, and personal insecurity opened doors in a genre that historically valorised invulnerability. His extraordinary output — multiple albums per year at his peak — set a standard for independent rap work rate.
