Drake Rewrites the Billboard Record Books
Drake is in the middle of one of the biggest chart runs of his career. His three-album rollout — ICEMAN, HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR — debuted at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Billboard 200, making him the first artist ever to occupy the entire top three concurrently since the chart began publishing weekly back in 1956. ICEMAN became his 15th No. 1 album, pushing him past Jay-Z for the most chart-toppers among solo men and R&B/hip-hop artists and tying Taylor Swift among soloists; only The Beatles, with 19, sit ahead of him.
The lead album moved 463,000 equivalent album units in its first week and held the top spot deep into June. Over on the Hot 100, his single "Janice STFU" logged a second week at No. 1 before Ariana Grande's "Hate That I Made You Love Me" knocked it off on the June 13 chart.
Vince Staples Goes Independent and Political on 'Cry Baby'
Vince Staples returned on June 5 with "Cry Baby," his seventh studio album and his first since parting with Def Jam to go independent in 2024. The Long Beach rapper channels punk-rock energy and his sharpest political writing yet across the tight, 35-minute record, aiming his frustration squarely at the American status quo.
Critics have been overwhelmingly positive, with multiple outlets calling it among the best rap albums of the year so far and praising its fearless hip-hop-meets-punk fusion.
Young Thug Teases a Surprise R&B Album
Young Thug is plotting a left turn. On June 10 the Atlanta star took to his Instagram Story to announce that he's working on an R&B album, telling fans the project is coming "soon" as he finalizes it. It would be his first full-length since September 2025's "UY Scuti," which arrived after his release on probation in the YSL RICO case. With girlfriend Mariah The Scientist firmly rooted in the genre, fans are already speculating about collaborations and a softer new sound from one of rap's most unpredictable voices.
Nipsey Hussle & Bino Rideaux's 'Prolific' Gets a Release Date
A piece of Nipsey Hussle history is finally on the way. "Prolific," the long-rumored joint album between the late Nipsey Hussle and frequent collaborator Bino Rideaux, will arrive August 14, 2026 — one day before what would have been Nipsey's 41st birthday. The 15-track project was recorded back in 2019, shortly before Hussle was killed, and is being rolled out behind the singles "Sacrifices" and "Reckless." For longtime fans, it's a bittersweet but welcome addition to his catalog.
Baby Keem Breaks His Silence on a Health Battle
Baby Keem is opening up about why he disappeared. After roughly five years away, the rapper returned with "Ca$ino" earlier in 2026, and he's now revealed that undisclosed health issues — not a lack of motivation — kept him offline. Keem said he won't go into specifics because he doesn't want it to become "the narrative," but admitted there was a stretch where he couldn't make music at all and "had to learn how to do it again." He's since launched a headlining tour behind the new project.
Young Dolph Case Figure Hernandez Govan Arrested Again
Hernandez Govan, who was acquitted last August in the murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph, is back in custody. Govan was arrested June 11 on harassment and stalking charges stemming from a June 4 domestic-related complaint; police allege he repeatedly harassed a woman, threatened to shoot up her home and threatened to post explicit content of her online. The new charges are unrelated to the Dolph case, in which a jury acquitted him of first-degree murder and conspiracy in 2025.
D12 Announce Their First Album in 20 Years
Detroit's D12 are gearing up for their first album in two decades. "D12 Forever Vol. 1," the group's third studio LP and first since 2004, is slated for June 19. The release marks a long-awaited reunion for the Eminem-affiliated crew and one of the more nostalgic moments on the summer release calendar.
