Uzi was booked for the T-Mobile Stage at Lollapalooza on July 31, but storms rolling through Grant Park forced the festival to scrap the set, with Zara Larsson slotting into the 6:20 p.m. window instead. Rather than eat the loss, Uzi dropped Maverick "Almost Forever" the same night: eight tracks, roughly 23 minutes, released on their 31st birthday and their first project in two years. The run reads "Maverick Intro," "Go!," "Poured," "223," "Yoko," "Gas. Brake.," "Say It Was" and "London Bonus."

The cover - a photo of a baby Uzi with their grandmother - carries a hidden message that fans clocked almost immediately: "ALBUM AFTER THIS." Uzi also salvaged the Chicago trip by joining Major Lazer on Perry's Stage later that evening for "Just Wanna Rock." The EP climbed to the top of US Apple Music over the weekend. Ten years to the day earlier, Uzi had released The Perfect LUV Tape, which makes the timing feel deliberate rather than reactive.

Tyga's $TARFACE Draws AI Allegations

Tyga released $TARFACE on July 31, an eighties-inspired, synth-forward pivot built around a new alter ego and led by the singles "GAVE U RACKS" and "Affection." Within 48 hours, producer Medasin publicly accused Tyga's camp of using artificial intelligence on the project, saying he ran "AFFECTION" through a detection model and got a "likely AI" reading tied to the Treblo software. Medasin made a similar claim about Fenix Flexin's "RUBBERZ" earlier this year.

Neither Tyga nor his team had responded as of Monday. It is worth holding this one loosely: AI detection models are notoriously unreliable, and heavy vocal processing on a deliberately synthetic-sounding record is exactly the kind of thing that trips them. Still, on an album this melodic and this far from Tyga's baseline, the conversation is not going to burn out on its own.

Rod Wave Locks In Don't Look Down for August 28

Rod Wave's seventh studio album, Don't Look Down, arrives August 28 via Alamo Records - his first full-length since 2024's Last Lap. Streaming listings currently point to a hefty 24 to 27 tracks, which is very much in character.

The rollout came with a cinematic trailer produced through his own Mainstay Films, opening on a funeral scene before shifting to an office where Rod delivers the project's thesis to a room of associates: "We keep going, and we don't look down." A North American Don't Look Down tour has been announced alongside it.

Keefe D's Tupac Murder Trial Set for August 10

Duane "Keefe D" Davis is scheduled to go to trial on August 10 in Las Vegas on a first-degree murder charge connected to the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur. The date is the result of repeated delays: proceedings were originally set for February 9, 2026, then pushed after defense attorneys argued they needed more time with decades of interviews, police reports and statements prosecutors intend to introduce.

Davis, arrested in September 2023, has pleaded not guilty and made clear this weekend that he has no interest in resolving the case short of trial. "I'm not going to take no plea deal because I didn't do nothing," he said. Whatever the outcome, this will be the most closely watched courtroom in hip-hop for the rest of the month.

Don Toliver's Nitrous Leg Launches as Octane Clears a Billion

Octane, released January 30, gave Toliver his first Billboard 200 number one and has now passed a billion Spotify streams, making it the most-streamed hip-hop album of 2026 so far. "E85" and "Body" sit as the year's top two streaming rap songs, and all 17 tracks landed on Hot Rap Songs simultaneously - only the sixth time any artist has logged 17 or more entries in a single week.

The Nitrous leg of the Octane World Tour opens August 4 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Toliver's first arena headline date in the city, with SahBabii, SoFaygo and Chase B on support. From there it runs through Miami, Nashville and Orlando before wrapping September 6 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Reebok G-Unit G6 Returns August 20 - and Rick Ross Has Jokes

50 Cent's Reebok G-Unit G6 comes back on August 20 at $130, and it is a straight 1:1 recreation of the 2003 white, blue and red colorway: white leather upper, grey suede toe cap, silver "G-6" lace dubrae, tri-color heel tabs and blue "G-Unit" embroidery on the lateral heel. It is the first meaningful return for the silhouette in more than twenty years.

Rick Ross, naturally, could not let it pass without comment, posting "Costco got these now" with crying emojis and adding that "Lloyd Banks hi tops better." Two decades in, the Ross and 50 feud remains the most reliable renewable resource in rap.

Nicki Minaj Fires Back in a $275K Production Lawsuit

Nicki Minaj and her company Pink Friday Productions are being sued by 24/7 Productions over roughly $255,000 the company says it fronted to cover expenses for her 2023 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball performances and the Pink Friday 2 launch in New York. Minaj is seeking dismissal and denying personal liability.

Her filing goes after the framing as much as the figures, arguing that 24/7 is relying on "sensationalized tropes to depict Minaj as a spoiled and entitled rap star receiving unearned personal windfalls, rather than a key performer utilizing common event hospitality built into a corporate budget." A separate dispute over a six-figure Ft. Lauderdale hotel tab has been running in parallel.

Ty Dolla $ign on Missing ICEMAN

Asked on a livestream why he did not appear on Drake's ICEMAN, Ty Dolla $ign kept it short: "I don't know, bro didn't call me this time." He added that Drake "never sent a feature to me," before closing with "it's still all love, man."

Ty has turned up on Drake projects before - "Get Along Better" on Certified Lover Boy, "After Dark" on Scorpion - and has said in past interviews that the reciprocation has not come back his way the same way it has from Kendrick Lamar. Most fans read it as mild frustration rather than a shot, but it is another small data point in the ongoing map of who Drake is and is not working with right now.
