Who Is Marky Mark?

Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg, known as Marky Mark (and now as Mark Wahlberg), is a Boston actor who briefly had one of 1991's biggest rap hits with Good Vibrations before discovering that Good Vibrations was everything his commercial appeal had to offer. Why You Gotta Believe Failed

You Gotta Believe (1992) earned 2/10 from us. Rate Your Music called it one steaming pile of bad cheese — terrible lyrics, nothing catchy, nothing unique. The album confirmed that Good Vibrations was entirely a production success rather than a Marky Mark success. Without the Loleatta Holloway sample and the funk production, there was nothing there.

Legacy & Cultural Impact

Marky Mark's rap career was approximately two years long and produced one genuinely great single. His legacy in music is entirely Good Vibrations. His legacy in culture is as Mark Wahlberg — a Boston actor who has appeared in Boogie Nights, The Departed, Ted, and the Transformers franchise and is one of the most commercially bankable stars in Hollywood. The career switch was unambiguously the right decision.
