The back half of the week gave us a little bit of everything: a blockbuster tour pairing, a long-awaited biopic date, more courtroom drama, a swatting scare caught live on stream, a classic 50 Cent trolling campaign, and a stacked New Music Friday. From Doja Cat and Latto teaming up for arenas to Rico Nasty and Tyla dropping albums at midnight, here's everything you need to know heading into the weekend.
Doja Cat Taps Latto for the "Tour Ma Vie" North American Leg
Doja Cat just made her fall run appointment viewing. On Tuesday she announced Latto as the special guest for the North American leg of the Tour Ma Vie World Tour — a 31-city trek that kicks off October 1 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and hits Vancouver, Los Angeles and Miami before wrapping December 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Two of the sharpest pens and biggest personalities in the game on one bill is an easy sell, and with tickets and VIP packages already live, expect the major markets to move fast. Latto opening arenas coast to coast also says plenty about where her stock sits right now.
Snoop Dogg Biopic "Snoop" Locks In an August 2027 Release
The Doggfather is officially getting the big-screen treatment. Universal announced this week that "Snoop," the long-gestating Snoop Dogg biopic, will open in theaters on August 6, 2027, with Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss playing the Long Beach legend. Craig Brewer — the director behind Hustle & Flow — is at the helm, working from his rewrite of Joe Robert Cole's script.
The film is the first project under Death Row Pictures' deal with NBCUniversal, produced by Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer alongside Snoop himself, and it will be soundtracked by the catalogue: "Gin and Juice," "Drop It Like It's Hot," "What's My Name" and more. Given how Straight Outta Compton performed in the same August window, Universal clearly likes its odds.
Pooh Shiesty Denied Bond Again Despite $700K Private Security Plan
Pooh Shiesty will stay behind bars until trial. At a detention hearing in Dallas on Tuesday, Senior U.S. District Judge David Godbey rejected the 1017 rapper's proposed $700,000 release package — which included round-the-clock private security and 24-hour supervision — ruling that no amount of hired protection could adequately assure public safety in his federal kidnapping and robbery case.
It's the second time Shiesty has been denied pretrial release, with the judge reportedly calling him a dangerous person. His trial is now set for February 22, 2027 — meaning the Memphis star faces at least another seven months in custody before he gets his day in court.
Blueface Swatted and Briefly Detained Mid-Livestream
Blueface became the latest rapper to fall victim to a swatting call. The Los Angeles artist was live on Kick from his Canyon Country home Tuesday when sheriff's deputies swarmed the property after a false report that a woman had been shot inside. Cameras kept rolling as officers ordered him out — Blueface walked backwards toward them barefoot, was briefly handcuffed and placed in a patrol car before the call was confirmed to be a hoax.
No evidence of any crime was found and Blueface was released without charges. He joins a long list of artists — including Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne — targeted by the dangerous prank, which continues to plague high-profile streamers and rappers alike.
50 Cent Trolls Rick Ross Over "Set In Stone" First-Week Numbers
The longest-running beef in hip-hop got a fresh chapter. After Rick Ross dropped his twelfth album "Set In Stone" on July 17 via Gamma and Maybach Music Group, 50 Cent pounced on early sales chatter, posting "I just saw your record sales! LOL 2,000 WTF" in reference to a reported first-day figure. Industry projections actually have the album moving in the range of 26,000 to 30,000 first-week units.
Ross fired back, dismissing the numbers talk as "propaganda" and fake bot-driven noise, and telling real hip-hop fans to focus on the music. Nearly two decades in, the 50-versus-Ross rivalry remains hip-hop's most reliable content machine.
New Music Friday: Rico Nasty's "RX" and Tyla's "A*POP" Arrive
Today's release slate delivers. Rico Nasty is back with "RX," a nine-track album that reunites her with longtime collaborator Kenny Beats (now credited as Kenneth Blume) and returns to the loud, sugar-trap energy that made her a cult favorite — a sharp pivot from the rap-rock leanings of 2025's "Lethal." Lead single "Cupcake" set the tone, and early reviews are calling the record exactly the prescription trap needed.
On the crossover side, Tyla's 14-track sophomore album "A*POP" lands via Epic, led by the chart-topping "Chanel" and the viral "She Did It Again" with Zara Larsson. The two-time Grammy winner celebrates with a TODAY Show concert this morning and makes history Saturday as the first international artist to headline the WNBA All-Star Game. Loe Shimmy also drops a new project and Moneybagg Yo adds a fresh single to round out the week.
