Hip-hop news roundup for July 13, 2026 — DJ performing on stage with crowd

Introduction

This weekend belonged to the stage. JAY-Z closed out a three-night Yankee Stadium takeover with a guest list for the ages, J. Cole finally launched The Fall-Off World Tour in his home state, and Kanye West played one of the most controversial shows of the year in Albania. Off the stage, Young Thug mapped out YSL's next chapter, 50 Cent picked up Emmy recognition, and next Friday is shaping up to be one of the biggest release days of the summer. Here's everything that moved since Friday's roundup.

JAY-Z Caps Three Historic Nights at Yankee Stadium With Beyoncé, Nas and Eminem

Hov delivered on every ounce of the hype. Friday's JAŸ-Z 30 opener, celebrating three decades of 'Reasonable Doubt,' saw JAY-Z bring out Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter, alongside Nas and his original mentor Jaz-O, in front of a packed Yankee Stadium crowd. Saturday's tribute to 'The Blueprint' somehow raised the stakes: Eminem emerged to trade verses on 'Renegade' for one of the loudest moments of the entire run, and Jay worked in an homage to Biggie via a stadium-sized mash-up.

A third show, JAŸ-Z Extra Innings, closed things out Sunday after demand forced the extra date. With SoFi Stadium, the Stade de France and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium still to come on the anniversary campaign, the Bronx run set an absurdly high bar for the rest of the year in live rap.

J. Cole Opens The Fall-Off World Tour With a 33-Song Homecoming in Charlotte

J. Cole's long-teased The Fall-Off World Tour is officially underway. The North Carolina native opened the 50-plus date global arena run Friday night at Charlotte's Spectrum Center with a career-spanning set that stretched nearly two hours and 33 songs, opening with 'The Fall-Off' cut '39 Intro' before running through album highlights like 'Two Six,' 'SAFETY' and 'Poor Thang' alongside classics such as 'A Tale of 2 Citiez,' 'MIDDLE CHILD' and 'No Role Modelz.'

The homecoming energy peaked when Cole left the stage to perform from inside the crowd, at one point going bar-for-bar with a fan. If night one is any indication, this tour is going to be the victory lap 'The Fall-Off' era deserves.

Young Thug Announces YSL 'New Generation' Tour With NAV

Young Thug is putting the label back on the road. The YSL 'New Generation' Tour will bring Thug and a wave of the imprint's rising artists — including Tezzus, Diamond*, 1300SAINT, Iyrus, Yume and Biggs — across 19 North American shows and four European stops, with NAV riding along as special guest for the North American leg.

The initial poster confirms cities but not dates, with ticket and venue details still to come. Thug and NAV have kept their chemistry warm for years, most recently connecting on 'Trimski' — and positioning YSL's next wave front and center suggests Thug is thinking bigger than his own catalog right now.

50 Cent's Diddy Docuseries Scores Three Emmy Nominations

50 Cent's Netflix docuseries 'Sean Combs: The Reckoning' picked up three nominations for the 2026 Emmy Awards: Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program. The four-part series, executive produced by Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson and directed by Alexandria Stapleton, became Netflix's most-watched program when it debuted in December.

True to form, 50 celebrated with a victory lap on social media. The 78th Emmy Awards air live September 14 on NBC and Peacock — and given the decades of history between 50 and Diddy, expect the commentary to continue all the way to the ceremony.

Kanye West Plays Controversial 60,000-Capacity Show in Albania

While most of Europe has shut its doors on him, Kanye West's mega-show outside Tirana, Albania went ahead Saturday, July 11 at 'Eagle Stadium' — a temporary venue built specifically for the event with a capacity of around 60,000. It marked Ye's first ever performance in the country, after cancellations elsewhere in Europe and an outright UK ban stemming from his antisemitic remarks and Nazi imagery.

The show came wrapped in controversy at home too: Albania's prime minister publicly defended spending roughly €4 million ($4.56 million) of public money on the concert amid protests. Whatever your read on Ye in 2026, the spectacle of a state-backed stadium show for an artist banned across much of the continent is one of the strangest stories of the year.

Next Friday Is Loaded: DJ Khaled and Rick Ross Both Drop July 17

Circle July 17. DJ Khaled's fourteenth studio album 'Aalam of God' — his first since 2022's 'God Did' — arrives with a typically stacked guest list that includes JAY-Z, Burna Boy, Cardi B, Tems, Lil Baby and 21 Savage. The same day, Rick Ross returns with 'Set In Stone,' his twelfth studio album and first solo LP in nearly five years, a 19-track project released through Maybach Music Group under an exclusive license to Gamma.

Ross kicked off his rollout with the single 'Minks in Miami' featuring T.I. and French Montana. Two Miami institutions going head-to-head on the same Friday — the flexing contest alone will be worth the price of admission.

The Bottom Line

A legendary Yankee Stadium run, a tour launch worthy of the wait, and a double-album Friday on deck — the summer of 2026 keeps delivering. Check back Wednesday for the next roundup from the world of hip-hop.
